If you have only a few days, this is the trek. The loop from near Pokhara climbs stone staircases through Magar and Gurung villages and rhododendron forest to Ghorepani, a village of lodges just below Poon Hill.
The reason everyone comes is the sunrise: a pre-dawn climb to the 3,210 m viewpoint reveals Dhaulagiri and the Annapurnas turning gold in a wide panorama. The trail then continues to Tadapani and the Gurung village of Ghandruk before returning to the road.
It's a good first trek in Nepal and suits families. In spring the forests flower red and pink. An Annapurna Conservation Area permit is required.
